I’m not here to tell you to choose VRPlayin over another VR centre in Toronto. But what I will tell you is what we can offer you that might make a different experience for you over other VR centres in the city. And hey, if you find that this looks like we are the right fit for you, then we’d love to host you and your group sometime! You can check out our group options below in consideration for your next event:
Content:
Virtual Reality is still a relatively new thing, and we’re all working to understand its full potentials whether it be for entertainment, education, or even creative purposes. We at VRPlayin like to call ourselves ‘The People’s VR’. We understand that everyone is different and that everyone should be able to enjoy the wonders of VR, no matter their age or skill level. This is why we try to keep the widest range of content possible within our library. With now having nearly 50 experiences in total, there is bound to be something for everyone.
Not really a ‘gamer’ per se? No problem. Watch the short VR-animated film Allumette, a beautiful and touching story about love, sacrifice and a deep bond between a young girl and her mother. Like travelling but not how much it costs? Explore the world in Google Earth VR and visit historic landmarks such as the Parthenon or Eiffel Tower. Or, you could just Google your own address and see if the street view camera happened to catch you taking out the garbage (I check this probably too often).
How about an old classic? Go back to basics with ping-pong, basketball or mini golf, VR-style. Trust me when I say you’ll most certainly find something that you can entertain yourself with, and then be amazed that an hour happened to go by so quickly.
User Friendly:
The first time I ventured into Virtual Reality, I spent half my allotted time trying to figure out the controls. Suffice to say, it wasn’t the perfect experience. We get that some people pick up things quicker than others, especially with technology. Even if you have the kind of mother that signs her name in texts, or writes whole emails in the subject line (hi mom), I promise you, she will grasp the controls of VR quicker than you’d expect at VRPlayin.
This is because we have carefully created a concise but informative 2-step tutorial for you. First, we have a short video we ask you to watch that explains everything you need to know about your session, especially tailored for those new to VR. Afterward, one of our customer service representatives goes through the key points with you again, including a focus on all of the HTC Vive controls and what they do. Worried you’ll forget everything once you jump into VR? Don’t worry, one of our CSR’s are always around to assist you through your session and make suggestions for you based on what you might enjoy.
When I first started working for VRPlayin, my first week consisted of me playing every single VR experience we have. I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to play games but of course, there is a good reason for that. Because of that ‘training’ (aka best job ever), all of the staff knows every experience we have inside and out, so we’re always able to answer your questions and make sure you get the most efficient use of your time in the virtual world.
Catering and Drinks:
Yes, many venues offer catering options. But our catering options are like, really good. Some of the best meals I’ve ever had are thanks to our friends at Pantry, including some incredible steak. Plus, with all their chicken options being Halal and many delicious vegan or gluten-free options available, everyone will be happy no matter what their dietary restrictions are.
Fajitas, anyone? If those are more your style, Bar Burrito has you covered. Choose either a taco or fajita bar and have the Mexican buffet of your dreams. Or go back to basics with some pizza from Dominos or gourmet style hot dogs from Fancy Franks. And don’t worry – we’ll take care of all the setup and clean up for you.
We’re also licensed, and we know how awesome beer is so we pick it well. Our manager, Colin, is especially good at this and always makes sure we have a fantastic variety of imported and domestic beers and ciders. We also got the jump on carrying the new Nütrl Vodka. A lemon vodka soda beverage with only those 3 ingredients. It’s really good.
Party Room (with VR!):
Many venues also offer party rooms but they’re usually separate from the main activity you’re doing. But because we thought ‘hey, let’s just put VR everywhere’, we’ve included 2 VR setups in ours. Rent the party room and eat, drink, socialize and take advantage of the VR that comes with it if you didn’t get your virtual fix just yet. Plus, you’ve got a bit more space in there so you can really extend your arms slicing with those katanas in Fruit Ninja.
We also get that sometimes you want to bring in your own food for your events, and that’s totally cool. When you rent the party room out, you have access to our bring-your-own-catering option, so you can customize your event to exactly how you want it.
Thanks for reading and hope to you see you at VRPlayin soon! You can most likely find me here in a headset trying to beat my Baskhead score 🙂
