Is your office starting to run out of steam? Do you get the sense your team needs a break? If so, maybe it’s time for some fun team building activities!
Team building activities are a great way to build rapport among team members, improve communication, morale and reduce employee stress. They also give everyone a chance to get to know each other outside of a typical professional setting. Plus, most importantly, they’re super fun!
But what if you’ve run out of ideas for a great team event? Or maybe every time you’ve Googled “team building activities ideas”, your results are things you’ve already done.
Next time you’re planning a group event for your team in Toronto, skip Google. Cut to the chase and start planning one of these ideas instead.
Corporate Team-Building Activities, Games, and Exercises for Work
1. Adult Playground
Do you miss last summer’s “Tough Mudder” or “Spartan Race”? Want some challenging exercises in the middle of a Toronto winter? Your best choice might be an indoor playground for adults. With mixed difficulty obstacles, including an adult ball pit, an obstacle course racing venue is perfect for team building activities that facilitate coordination and cooperation. Of course, this does require some fitness level, but if your team is young or young at heart, this might be just the thing for you!
2. Virtual Reality
Looking for team coordination and competition in a completely unimaginable world? You may want to consider VR. Don’t know anything about VR yet? Consider reading our other blog post HERE to grasp a better understanding of what it is and where it stands today.
A breathtaking interactive experience that will give your employees an adrenaline rush, Virtual Reality Experience Centers, lounges, and arcades have been sprouting up in neighbourhoods across Toronto. Yet, many still do not know about VR and how it can be a fantastic option for a team building event.
Here’s how it works: Each person in a group wears a VR headset in their designated booth and interact with their colleagues in a virtual environment. Whether it’s activities like paintball, archery, shooting competition, racing, or more, the ability to support multiple users in the same experience is simply fascinating and is bound to be the talk of your workplace in the days following the event.

3. Cook-Off
Here’s a fun, food-based activity that could end in dessert or disaster. Divide your group into smaller teams, pick a food category, and challenge each team to cook up something delicious. The category could be anything from a cake to guacamole, to burgers. Creating new dishes together requires creativity and forces everyone to put their team and leadership skills into action.
An interesting twist you could add is to pick one ingredient that all teams must incorporate, like mustard or brownies. Or, choose a specific shape for your food or dish and have each team get creative.
4. Improv Workshop
Improv and comedy events are fun, interactive experiences that will have your employees bursting with laughter and teach great communication skills like trust and focus. Depending on the budget, you could do anything from playing improv games with your employees to bringing in a professional to run fast-paced and competitive activities.
5. Professional Development Workshop
Here is a great way to encourage your employees to bond while providing them with an opportunity to learn and advance their career. Try offering a shared learning experience at either at your office or at an off-site workshop or conference. The activity could be specifically tailored to your employees’ jobs, or it could be something vaguer, like a leadership skills workshop or type of negotiation.
6. Mysterious Dinner
Pick a night and send a group of colleagues from different teams within your company to a dinner location somewhere in Toronto. The dinner is hosted by one of the company leaders and allow random groups of people from the same company but different departments or sections to spend an evening together full of good food and conversation.
So what makes it a mysterious dinner? The only thing everyone should know about the dinner in advance is the date and time. On the morning the dinner is supposed to take place, send each group an email with the name of the location they’re going to and who they’ll be going with (in case they would like to arrange transportation together).
You can also give every host the name of a bar or restaurant so they can invite everyone to congregate once the dinners are over.
7. Retro Arcade Bars
Arcade bars are pretty popular for consumers, but not yet well known for team building activities or corporate events. These are a bar/retro arcade hybrid that features everything from pinball to classic fairground games and giant screen TVs for video games. Retro arcades often appeal more to anyone over 30, for whom the games bring back a lot of old memories. Either way, competing in these types of arcades can really bring the team together, whether they’re old enough to remember the heyday of video arcades or not.
